Yan Ting - Nice and Expensive Chinese Food

My personal opinion of Yan Ting is that the most prominent features are the price and the ambience of grandeur.

Some dishes like the Beancurd Roll, Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun and Seafood Noodles are good.  They are not too salty but extremely flavourful. My only grip with the dim sum items (not including the steamed ones) is that they are generic in variety, seriously lacking in creativity.

Note: This is no longer the case, I find that the food improves a lot after multiple visits. There are quite a number of new creations that get the approval from our tastebuds. Now this restaurant is one of our regular haunts.

Other highlights include Meat Dumpling in Chilli Oil, the unique, crispy Pan-fried Pumpkin and Yam Cake, Pan-fried Kurobuta Pork with Black Pepper Sauce and Steamed Crystal Shrimp Dumpling with Chinese Olive and Squid Ink. Meat Dumpling in Chilli Oil is the best I have ever tried because the fresh pork wrapped in thin, smooth dough skin, which is soaked in vinegar and topped with generous helpings of chopped garlic and spring onions, packs a myraid of strong flavours. Pan-fried Pumpkin and Yam Cake is a savoury treat that wins with its crispy exterior and subtle earthy sweetness of pumpkin and yam. Korobuta Pork is a very decadent dish.

Shrimp Dumpling is also good due to use of fresh, springy prawns. And I like its presentation of gold flakes sprinkled over its black dough skin.

The huge plus point is the opulent settings of the restaurant will impress guests immensely. The service is okay though they did not bid farewell to leaving patrons, which is kind of unacceptable for restaurant of this level. Note again: After few visits, I realize it really depends on who is on duty. Some of them are really friendly, so we are pretty fine with the general standard of the service here.

The final bill is about 20% higher than most restaurants.  So take note.

Don't mind going back for a round of decent Chinese food since I have the Supper Club membership which takes off 25% from the bill.

My Thoughts: Very Nice!
