Tamago-EN - Truly Unique Omelette

I had been wanting to check out Tamago-EN but the long queue makes it pretty impossible for me to do so. It’s only after I had finished my photoshoot session at Floral Fantasy, Gardens by the Bay that I realized I should give Tamago-EN a shot since I will be passing by Serangoon MRT anyway. It was a weekday afternoon, while there is no queue, the place is still pretty crowded. But I managed to get a seat at the counter.

The counter is where one can catch whiffs of the aroma of cooked egg. It sure raises my expectations of what is to come.

And the Tamago Kake Gohan, also known as Ultimate Egg Rice, does not disappoint. While the rice is a bit on the soggy side, thus losing that slightly chewy texture and starchy feel that I like, the egg and toppings are enough to make up for it. The raw egg from Okinawa, with its orange yolk—an indication of quality egg, is oh-so-good. The yolk has none of the slight smell of iron typically detected in most raw eggs. And the egg white is whipped to a fluffy cloud that serves to allow one’s tastebuds to explore new texture on savoury spectrum. Yes, it is worth it to specially go down to try the egg prepared in this unique way. And furikake—Japanese seasonings provided will add bursts of flavours to this ethereal puff of egg white.

I also like how we can choose the toppings of our preferences to be added to the Egg Rice. Since I always love negitoto, which is minced tuna belly, naturally I will opt to add in this topping. It is fresh, so this makes me a happy diner when tucking into the negitoro. Addition of avocado is highly recommended as it adds a rich creaminess to the egg rice while staying neutral in taste. In fact, it is hard to go wrong with adding avocado to anything. I also opt to add Chicken Tsukune—meatballs to be exact, as topping. Topped with savoury, tangy plum sauce, these fresh meatballs are very tasty.

Berry soufflé pancake is oh-so-good! The pancake is incredibly soft and fluffy. In fact, it is like a pancake cloud filled with the goodness of egg and just that tiny bit of flour to hold its shape. When paired with the cool whipped cream, it is a cloud of sweet gastronomic bliss.

Egg Pudding is silky smooth in texture and is full of eggy goodness, as expected from a place renowned for its eggs. Though I do wish there is more whipped cream at the top since the light creaminess and fluffy texture add a lot to the dessert.

So, will I go back? A definite YES, provided I do not need to queue.

Two Bakers - Unique Cakes with Singaporean Influences

I must say we Singaporeans are lucky to be able to try cakes of different kinds, from French, Italian, Japanese to even uniquely Singaporean, right in this little island. Yes, locally inspired desserts that have the Singapore flavours while featuring the intricacies and preparation of French patisserie. And these are the cakes that attract me to Two Bakers.

Their signature “Bao Zi”, meaning “bun” in Chinese, looks so cute and is like the real thing, completed with the bamboo tray that is usually used for steaming Chinese buns. Taste wise, the chrysanthemum white chocolate mousse is a crowd pleaser, being light and smooth, and the citrus flavours of yuzu and lemon introduce little splashes of excitement to perk things up. Matcha sponge does well not to eclipse the delicate taste of white mousse. But what holds everything together is actually the buttery cookie pastry base. The aroma and savoury taste of butter plus the crumbly texture of the base adds dimension to this light dessert, elevating it from nice and mild to very good and memorable.

But the cake that makes me want to go back is Odeh Odeh instead. I always love anything coconut and gula melaka, so this creation hits all my soft spots. This cake is bursting with the sweet aroma of pandan, nutty flavours of coconut and caramel goodness of gula melaka. And the cookie pastry base helps to reel in the sweetness of the cake, making the overall taste sublime. This is the must try cake in my opinion since it is not everywhere that one can get such cake with strong Singaporean influences.

The interior of this cafe is nice and decent, so is the service. Located at Teck Chye Terrace, there is a quaint quality to this place.

As said before, for Odeh Oden cake, I will want to go back again. And while at it, I hope to try more of two bakers’ creations.

Fennel Cafe - The Place to Relax and Enjoy Good Food

Closed

After I realized my deep appreciation of flowers and photography, I had been going to Gardens by the Bay on regular basis. After patronizing Majestic Bay Restaurant countless of times, I decide to dine at Fennel on my latest outing.

Ambience wise, the place is unparalleled. Nested within the Flower Dome, where the ceiling is made of glass, it really feels like one is dining at a outdoor garden while enjoying the cool weather.

Under this setting, it is a joy to enjoy a warm, flaky, buttery croissant with butter and jam. What a way to spend the morning. Actually, I was there for lunch, but since I reached the place way earlier than 11:30am, I ordered the croissant to try instead. And after finishing the croissant, I am all hyped up to try the dishes in Fennel’s lunch menu.

Salmon Carpaccio, fennel and grapefruit, is a refreshing dish due to the addition of fennel and grapefruit. The slight bitterness of the grapefruit actually accentuates the flavours of the salmon. It is a nice dish to whet the appetite but I cannot say it is exceptional since it is still salmon.

Potato Gnocchi, kale pesto, is exceptional though. I love the super crispy curly kale peppered with salt. One light bite on the leaf, it breaks into tiny flavourful flakes. Potato gnocchi is springy and starchy, thus making for a hearty meal. And it goes so well with the pesto sauce, which features the distinctive aroma of basil and garlic. The paper-thin slices of cheese add dots of zest and creaminess to the dish. This is one delicious, wholesome yet healthy mains.

Service is decent. I have to admit that I was expecting service to be exceptional in such setting.

I do like this cafe a lot since the items in the menu look really interesting. And the two I have tried prove to be unique and delicious. I cannot wait to try more of Fennel’s offerings the next time I go to Gardens by the Bay.

Thoughts: Nice!

Kaki Makan - Sedap Rice

Closed

I had not taken a photo of my Salted Egg Chicken cutlet Nasi Kerabu because I was there to solely appease my groaning stomach, so I did not expect the set lunch to be good enough to take up a space on my site. Well, I got a huge surprise the moment I had my first spoonful of bluepea-infused basmatic rice. It is so fragrant, fluffy and flavourful, it reminds me of my favourite Nasi Lemak rice from Selera Rasa. And to top it off, lots of toppings are added. There are crispy chicken cutlet, achar, which is pickled vegetables, begedil—fried potato mash and salted egg. This makes for a very hearty meal. The batter of the deep-fried Banana Ball is so crispy that it is so good. So by the time I realized this place is good enough for me to write about it, not much is left of my dish to be photographed.

The staffs are very friendly, having that kampung feel that I appreciate. A good place to get a quick, hearty meal.

Thoughts: Sedap

Sushi Shiki Hanamaru - Awesome Chirashi and Crab Gratin

Closed

Losing an opportunity here may lead to finding a new opportunity elsewhere. This is what happened to us when we found out that our regular haunt, Misato is full house and we decided to walk through the tunnel to get to Orchard Central. That led us to Don Don Donki, where Sushi Shiki Hanamaru is also located, so we figured that no harm checking out what this restaurant is all about. And it is a good choice that we made since this restaurant is exactly what I need to fill up the void left by Kuroson—I seldom to go this place after my favourite dishes were scrapped off the menu.

My favourite got to be the Minced Tuna Rice Bowl. It is so sumptuous: smooth, starchy rice being topped with my favourite negitoro, which is minced tuna by the way, generous number of ama ebi that I love so much for its sweetness, flying fish roe that gives pops of surprise and variation to the texture, and surfer clam. This is oh so good. The seafood is so fresh. To top it off, this rice bowl is priced at an unbelievable price of fifteen dollars! If you are into raw seafood, do your tastebuds and wallet a favour to make it a must to order this rice bowl.

Crab Gratin is another must order. The umami of sweet succulent real crab meat, enveloped by butter and soft, fluffy, stretchy cheese, topped off with a thin layer of charred cheese hits all the right notes on the tastebuds. It is not often that we get to see Crab Gratin in most menus, so it is definitely worth it to try this when dining at this restaurant.

My companion’s comment on the platter of sushi is that the fishes and seafood are fresh.

Chicken Karaage is pretty good since the chicken is succulent. And actually, I like the accompanying salad a lot lol

The interior is pretty nice and cosy with hints of izakaya bar style despite the place being sort of open concept. It is a nice place to lounge at. Service is okay.

I am totally digging this place because of the rare items in the menu, fresh seafood, variety and totally value-for-money rice bowls. Though I have only been here once, I am putting this restaurant under “My Favourite Haunts” category already since I know I will be back often. It is good to know that I have one more good choice to choose from when I am at Orchard.

Thoughts: 👍🏻

Morozoff - Mascarpone Cheese Cake is a must-try

Closed

It is not like one can easily find mascarpone cheese cakes in bakeries here, so this fact alone is enough for me to take the plunge and buy the whole cake—actually, I was there to buy a bottle of water only at first. And I am glad I did because it is impossible to stop at one slice.

The very mild nutty flavour of cheese is so subtle in taste yet surprisingly more distinct in the mist of creaminess. Maybe it is because there is no distraction from other stronger flavours. Yes, the best mascarpone cheese baked goods are kept pure—no chocolate and whatsoever. And the mascarpone cheese cake here gets it right.

The texture of the baked cheese cake is so soft and sublime. It almost literally melts in the mouth. And the cookie base is crumbly, soft and moist, complementing the cheese cake perfectly. Maybe that is part of the reason why one slice is not enough.

By the way, it seems like no label is used to indicate which cheese cake is in the box, so better to visually inspect that the cake is the correct one since this place also offers Hokkaido Cheese Cake, which is darker in colour. While I believe that Hokkaido Cheese Cake will taste great too, but it is slightly cheaper than Mascarpone Cheese Cake. So make sure you do not bring the wrong one home.

Thoughts: Loving it!

Jude’s Clotted Cream Ice-cream and Salted Caramel Variety

I had once said Waitrose Devonshire Clotted Cream Ice-cream to be the best ice-cream from supermarkets, and this is due to the extra smoothness and light creaminess of the clotted cream that lingers at the back of the mouth. So when I see there is another brand of clotted cream ice-cream, I do not hesitate to get a tub. Introducing Jude’s Clotted Cream Ice-cream!

And this ice-cream does not disappoint. Clotted cream does wonders to ice-cream, period. A spoonful of this is enough to make me feel blissful, but it is hard to stop at one spoonful.

This brand of Salted Caramel ice-cream is divine too. Not too sweet but packs the aromas of caramel and sea salt, it is definitely worth a try.

Ha-Oh Hototogisu Ramen - Unique and Great Broth

For ramen fans, this is a must-try since the crab broth is so unique and is thus worth a try. Made from simmering blue crabs to extract the umami and sweetness of crab meat, the broth is good to drink on its own. Little bits of excitement in taste comes in the form of the lemon and sour cream that actually go very well with savoury soup. The yellow noodles is springy in texture, which is just right. The two thin slices of chashu are flavourful and succulent.

My main issue is there is too few toppings to go with the noodles. Yes, the broth is so good that I can finish the noodles without the toppings, but it just feels not exactly fulfilling without lots of toppings.

The place is more for functionality over super comfort, but the good part is we can quickly get a table despite the crowd due to the efficiency of the staff and the high turnover rate of patrons.

All in all, a good place to get your ramen fix and explore new tastes. And the founder’s story is inspiring, worth a read while there.

Thoughts: Love the broth!

Kane Mochi - Mochi + Ice-cream = Thumbs-up

Thin glutinous rice dough wrapped around ice-cream really yields a yummy treat. In fact, I feel it is better than those filled with bean paste only. I like the creaminess of ice-cream, paired with the stretchy, chewy dough skin for variation in texture and taste. Another plus point is that there are lots of flavours to choose from! Perfect for giving as gifts due to the variety, catering to different taste buds.

Thai Ice Tea is the must-try of Kane Mochi’s repertoire. For one, it is unique. I mean, where else can one get Thai Ice Tea ice-cream mochi? Thai Ice Tea is liked by many due to the creaminess and aroma of tea. And Thai Ice Tea ice-cream is exactly the same.

Salted Caramel is interesting due to the saltiness plus the richness of caramel. If one likes salted caramel desserts in general, then the Salted Caramel mochi here will not disappoint.

Lychee mochi features the flowery aroma of lychee. But the ice-cream tastes more like sorbet than ice-cream. Somehow, it is just not that creamy as I would like.

My family members have tried strawberry and blueberry, and they say the are good. Well, now I know what to get for them when I am at Jewel.

All in all, I am still looking forward to try the other flavours and buy more for my loved ones to enjoy.

My Thoughts: Nice!

Uni Gallery by Ooster Bay - Sweet Uni Dreams Fulfilled

Since my visit to Sushi Kimura, I had this strong craving for uni. But for the longest time, I could not satisfy that craving, until I come to Uni Gallery, where I do not need to burn a hole in my wallet just to savour one morsel of that sweet uni. I had been to other establishments to try to get my uni fix, but that one little piece in thirty dollars plus or more expensive chirashi bowl is hardly enough to satisfy me. But at Uni Gallery, for thirty dollars plus, I can get a bowl of chirashi filled with six pieces of uni! Imagine my joy when I can finally submerged myself in sweet uni dreams. And best of all, the uni here is super fresh and sweet! Way better in quality than the one piece I got in the chirashi I had ordered in other establishments. More on that later. Let’s talk about my favourite dish first, which I order after I have happily finished my chirashi bowl.

Le Tetsuya is so exquisite in taste, showcasing the nuanced multifaceted flavours of the sea. The combination of the sweetness and umami of bafun uni, hokkaido crab and Serbian sturgeon caviar is unbelievably sublime. So subtle yet so complex in taste. And the flavours of each ingredient is very distinct without eclipsing the taste profile of the others. The appetizer to order for some serious indulgence.

Oyster shot, an all-time favourite of the restaurant, is a decadent treat that fully engages one’s taste buds. This is like the da bomb of the gastronomic journey at this place. The briney flavours of the oyster actually go pretty well with the sweetness of the bafun uni. The ikura gives pops of excitement to the overall taste. As compared to Le Tetsuya, this appetizer seems louder in terms of taste, since both ikura and oyster are stronger in taste than caviar and crab meat, thus creating a strong impression. Though I have to say that I prefer the subtlety of Le Tetsuya.

2 Types of Premium Uni Chirashi is what brings me to this restaurant, and it does not disappoint. I am so delighted to see lots of uni sitting on top of the starchy, smooth, pearl-like rice. Bafun uni is sweeter of the two kinds while murasaki uni is both milder in colour and taste. But I actually prefer murasaki uni since it is more creamy. Nonetheless, I love both types of uni presented here. The shredded egg, fried white bait and flying fish roe add extra textures to the dish. The good part about these additional toppings is that their tastes do not distract one from appreciating the goodness of uni. The half portion is pretty small, but it is enough for me, especially when there are six pieces of uni.

The salad that comes with the chirashi bowl is very flavourful due to generous amount of creamy sesame sauce added. Miso soup is kind of a tad too salty though. But I do not really care for that as long as I get my fill of fresh, awesome uni.

I love this place. It is like the ultimate place to get one’s fill of uni without breaking the bank. It is uni dream comes true. The Plaza is pretty run-down and the basement, where Uni Gallery is located, feels a dungeon, but I sure do not mind as long as I continue to get my uni at affordable price. The place does remind me of Cuppage Plaza, which is one of my favourite, but dingy, place, to get good Japanese food at great price. This kind of buildings is like best place to suss out hidden gens. The interior of this place is cozy though. And the service is great. The staff takes pride in introducing the types of uni and ingredients added to the dishes. There are also other kinds of value-for-money set lunches available, so I can bring my loved ones to here to enjoy the food even if they are not into raw seafood or they want to be real kind to our wallets.

My Thoughts: Awesome!

Majestic Bay Restaurant - Unique Dim Sum

I was pretty critical of Majestic Bay Restaurant when I first visited it. The second time I visited this place, the service had gotten better, but since I ordered too much food on the second outing, I was feeling too stuffed to remember much about the food, except that the sweet Nutella bun is very filling. Guess third time is the charm, in which I can update more on this place.

Purple sweet potato dumpling with duck meat is definitely a dim sum of novelty. The sweet earthy flavours of purple sweet potato goes very well with the strong taste of duck meat that is submerged in sweet savoury sauce. My only issues with this dish are that the layer of sweet potato is too thick and there is too little duck meat. Can be very filling due to carbs from the sweet potato.

I love the crispy soft shell crabs in lemon butter sauce since I like eating soft shell crabs—nothing beats bitting through the crispy exterior to release a burst of umami encapsulated within the soft shell. And the lemon butter sauce adds an iota of zest and lots of creaminess to complement the flavours of the sea from the soft shell crabs.

Steamed butterfly pea flower prawn dumplings come in beautiful hue of deep blue that was extracted from butterfly pea flower. And besides the colour, what makes this prawn dumpling different from the usual haw gao is the generous addition of chopped vegetables, which is soaked with the meat juices and seasoning, yielding succulent, moist filling. I like the slight variation in taste due to the vegetables added.

Honey Pork Buns are pretty good, the soft fluffy bun is being filled with lots of sweet BBQ pork. But it is not exactly unique or outstanding as compared to other dim sum items. While Crispy Seafood Roll in Salad Sauce is one of the highlights of the repertoire of dim sum. First of all, I love the unique wrapping of this roll, it is like the filling is rolled with breadcrumbs before being deep-fried. This yields crunchy exterior that hides a treasure of prawn bits soaked in creamy salad sauce. The difference in texture between the exterior and filling lets one enjoy the wonderful marriage of two textures.

Mango puree with ice-cream in whole young coconut is definitely the dessert to try for tourists. Sweet mango goes pretty well with the creamy flesh of the young coconut. Yes, it is a must to scrap the flesh, which is full of nutty goodness and has a good bite, off the inside of the coconut because it is so good that it is worth the effort. If one is not into bitterness in this kind of dessert—I am one of them, then requests not to add in the pomelo bits. I find the taste of pomelo too sharp to be in harmony with the taste of the coconut.

I love going to Gardens by the Bay, and this restaurant proves to be a great dining option that makes my trip there a thoroughly enjoyable one, both for the eyes and the palates.

New Zealand Natural

I was actually checking out the ice-cream & cookie co’s selection of ice-cream at NTUC when I noticed New Zealand Natural ice-cream stashed in the neighbouring freezer compartment. Curiosity prompted me to pick up a tub to check the ingredient list, where there is no sight of artificial colouring and flavour, plus the fact that there was 2-for-1 offer, I ended buying three tubs home. Guess what, this brand of ice-cream is fast becoming one of my favourites.

Forestberry yoghurt is very creamy, so thumbs up to this one. The same goes for vanilla ice-cream. The big surprise comes in the form of Lychee & Passionfruit ice-cream. This is the must-try of New Zealand Natural’s lineup. The sweet floral taste of lychee will please any palates while the swirls of passionfruit jam adds mild citrus tangy flavour to perk up the taste. The result is creamy yet refreshing treat.

I also highly recommend Buttermilk and Raspberry. The nutty flavour with a bit of tang from the buttermilk makes for a interesting yet delicious treat.

Third World Practices - Nope!!!

Live crabs are not toys to be played with, so House of Seafood at Punggol, you now officially drafted into my boycott list, along with that unethical New Thai Tanic Hotpot restaurant that let customers pick out live seafood from the tanks beside each table—its advertisement is also so crass and cringe-inducing. Oh yes, Sea Tripod Seafood, you are in it too. These kind of restaurants make first world Singapore look like a Third World country with their irresponsible practices, which have no value, except to get attention. For goodness’ sake, stop encouraging people to play with their food! Yes, I also hate it when people take lots of food from buffet trays and yet unable to finish it. This is why I do not go to certain buffet places because I will most probably be thoroughly disgusted by some Third World antics sighted there.

Just because these machines and practices are popular in Third World countries does not mean it is acceptable in Singapore.

And people who supports this kind of practices probably still has their mindsets trapped in stone ages.

I do not usually criticize restaurants on here, but there are some issues that I need to take a stand against, and this is one of them.

Update: House of Seafood at Punggol had ceased the operations of its live crab claw machine. Good for you. To be fair, I changed the title since this will be a criticism against unethical restaurants in general, rather than House of Seafood specifically.

Tokyo Banana Hello Kitty Apple Cake

Yes, the famed Tokyo Banana! Actually, I had tried the original version and it did not leave a lasting impression on me, and I still did not become a fan of banana confectionery. However, I absolutely love this version of Tokyo Banana because the apple jam stuffed into the soft eggy cake sponge does wonders to the overall taste. The jam not only adds a dimension to the taste and also injects additional moisture to the cake. It also goes very well with the banana custard, highlighting the creaminess of the custard. A must-buy if visiting Japan.

Kele - Swiss Roll Bliss!

A must-try for swiss roll lovers! I only got to know about kele when I tried their mooncakes that my sister had brought for us. The special fillings of those mooncakes left a deep impression on me since it is like no others. I mean, where else can you can rose or avocado filling? So when I googled on this company and found that they sell swiss rolls with the same type of fillings, I know I got to get my greedy hands on them. But I do not have the time to go there despite my cravings. So imagine my surprise when I see kele’s booth at Yishun Northpoint, near the famed Tiger Sugar. And I hardly hesitate to buy three rolls at one go.

I love the cream to cake sponge ratio of this swiss roll, which is lots of cream in proportion to the cake sponge. The cake sponge of this swiss roll is pretty okay, but what seals the deal is the thick, rich dollop of cream with a ring of cake sponge wrapped around it.

Avocado Gula Melaka absolutely blows me away with the combination of the buttery goodness of avocado and the aroma of caramel in gula melaka sugar. It is so rich and favourful. Definitely a must-try of kele’s repertoire.

I like Rose Cream Cheese a lot too as I am a fan of rose desserts and this swiss roll is packed with the sweet fragrance of rose.

Strawberry Cream Cheese, made with real strawberries, looks so pretty. It has the tangy taste due to the strawberries added. I like it that it tastes natural. But it does pale in comparison to Avocado and Rose Cream Cheese due to the lack of novelty in taste. It works very well in mooncakes, but with cake, it is nice, just that I had tried lots of strawberry cakes, so it does not woo me over like the other two favours.

The swiss rolls here are probably one of the best, only rivaled by Chateraise’s Berry Rare Cheese Fluffy Roll.

Ordinary Burger - Not Ordinary at all

I am guessing the burger is named Ordinary because the owners are expecting us to refute that with titles such as mine when we write about it.

Its lineup of burgers is not definitely not ordinary, ranging from buttermilk chicken, ebi prawn to portobello mushroom and impossible burger (a plant-based burger that tastes like real beef burger). I like it that they have veggie options to cater to different tastes.

I had passed by the outlet at Ang Mo Kio several times, and I like the look of the burgers and the concept of the burgers being freshly handmade. But it is only until now that I decide to give it a try. And portobello mushroom burger wins me over. The meaty flavour of portobello mushroom plus the stretchy mozzarella cheese and special sauce yield a very flavourful burger that is full of that smokey aroma I like. This veggie burger does not lose to meat-based burgers in any way. My only issue is that the centre of the mushroom, where the stem was, is harder than the rest of the mushroom, making it more challenging to chew off.

Another vegetarian option, Impossible Burger is impossibly good! Super juicy “meat” slathered with tasty, slightly spicy sauce is definitely a winner. This is most probably my favourite burger of all burgers of all brands.

Ebi burger is very good too due to the generous amount of prawns stuffed into the patty. If one has craving for prawn burger, this is the place to satisfy that craving.

Actually, I am not into fast food at all. But somehow, I always end up getting an Ordinary Burger when I go to Ang Mo Kio. The burgers are definitely worth a try since they are different from their counterparts in other fast food restaurants.

My Thoughts: Worth a try, and is a must try for burger fans. And is my favourite burger joint.

Snacky & Crisps

Jin Ho Jiak ar! Okay, this is the first thought that comes into my mind when I pop a piece of super crispy potato chip, laden with local flavours, into my mouth. Using only natural ingredients like prawns and seasonings such as the rich, creamy coconut powder, laksa leaves, curry powder, garlic powder and more, this snack is a winner on the taste department. To add on to the awesomeness of this snack, there are fried, crispy tau pok, commonly known as fried beancurd skin, to give a varied texture.

I highly recommend this snack. Definitely worth a try. And it makes great gifts for foreign friends, provided they can take the spiciness, since it is like laksa packed in a bag, showcasing the flavours of Singapore.

Antoinette - Treats of Opulence

Closed

It is just another day hanging out at the second floor of my regular haunt, Millenia Walk, when I notice a new cafe on the ground floor. It is impossible to miss it due to the display of beautiful, tantalizing-looking cakes, flushes of gold on the decor and the posh interior of black walls with a chandelier and yellow spotlights. So naturally, we decide to check it out after our lunch.

As a huge fan of all things coconut and gula melaka, I want so much to try the odeh odeh Japanese soufflé pancakes when I see it in the menu. But I am too full after lunch at Tomi, so I go for the cakes instead.

Superlova is as pretty as the roses it was created from. And in the taste department, it is sweet bliss due to the sweet aroma of rose that is further enhanced by the lychee fruit hidden within the smooth rose mousse. The thin cake sponge encased within adds a nice dimension to the texture. I also love the rose meringue sticks decked on top of the cake. They are sinful melt-in-your-mouth sugary treats. The rose macaron is oh-so-good, featuring the nutty aroma of almond and the chewy texture with no caves in the shells that define a macaron well-made. The raspberry jam introduces shots of excitement with its tangy taste to balance the sweetness of the rose mousse. As a fan of rose-based confectionery, I definitely like this creation a lot and the variation in taste and texture makes it interesting.

Antoinette is like the bestseller of Antoinette’s repertoire of offerings, so I order it without hesitation. The flavour of earl grey is very pronounced in this cake, which can be a boon or bane, depending on personal preference. It adds something different to the chocolatey mousse, which can be exciting. On the other hand, if one is expecting a rich chocolate cake wholly devoted to showcasing pure decadent tastes of chocolate, the strong taste of earl grey maybe distracting instead. I like the raspberry coulis as the acidity of this fruit actually highlights the velvety, rich taste of chocolate.

One of the best reasons to come here to enjoy some exquisite desserts is of course the ambience. Bathed in soft yellow light, the place looks so chic. It is like the cool, sophisticated place to hang out at to be cool. The great, enthusiastic and friendly service crew all the more makes lounging here a pleasure.

And yes, I am still waiting for the chance to come here again to try other cakes and that odeh odeh pancake.

My Thoughts: Very Nice!

This cafe is no longer in operation.
