Catalunya - Not El Bulli, not Santi, but a valuable contribution to Spanish culinary scene in SG

Closed

Despite the repeated association with El Bulli, Catalunya is not about molecular gastronomy, but is rather about traditional Catalan food, which do nicely to fill in the void Santi had left. Though I have to say that Catalunya is not yet at the level of Santi yet, but it is good enough to give a insight of what good Spanish cuisine is all about.

The decor of the restaurant is rustic and casual, yet modern, elegant and there is a beautiful scenery of bay front.

The food has its hits and misses. Some, like the omelette and Toriija Milk Bread are simply delightful, bursting with a complexity of flavours which are in perfect harmony of each other. The Lobster Rice is pretty good; packed full of lobster goodness and tiny bit of squids thrown in to create an excellent texture and bite. Suquet (I found fish bones in this dish) and Catalan cream are nice but have nothing special going for them, thus uninspiring.

Service is okay, nice and friendly but has the tendency to have some hiccups and mistakes, especially when it gets crowded in the restaurant. Hopefully, the rough spots can be ironed out in time to come.

One more thing, I do appreciate the casual feel of the restaurant in which sharing of food is highly encouraged and kids are allowed during lunchtime, so it is great for family gatherings. I definitely look forward to going back again.

My Thoughts: Very Nice!

Note: This restaurant is no longer in operation.
