K ki - The Story of Mousse Cakes

Finally get to visit this quaint little shop at its new venue at SOTA. Despite the huge crowd around the stores on the first floor along Prinsep Street, K ki is away from the buzz, right on the second floor (go up the staircase nested between the stores, and then turn right to find this place)—exactly how I prefer for a chill out place. The interior is impossibly tranquil in ambience and exudes an artistic air of simplicity due to the light beigh wooden furniture, strategically and sparsely placed ornaments, plants and porcelain kitchenware, and white walls.

About the cakes (before the move): I had tried Kinabaru, Little Red Riding Hood and Mona, while their taste is interesting, the balance of flavours seems off, thus they did not induce the "WOW" effect on me.

The only one that did that is Antoinette (and it induces such effect on many more, other than me). And for Antoinette, I'm willing to trek all the way to get my hands on this little creamy white wonder. Light, smooth white chocolate mousse, yet imbued with a strong fragrance of cocoa butter, hiding a ganache of sweet, lovely mango (no even a hint of sourness usually seen in mangoes or mango cakes), one piece is simply not enough for me! A must try, and the bunch disappear pretty fast from the shelf in a single quiet afternoon.

Another highlight of the cakes is Nao, the Strawberry and Pistachio cake, where I really appreciate the slightly tart (not too much) taste and natural aroma of strawberry in the mildly sweet mousse made from real strawberries. The addition of pistachio mousse in the centre makes for a unique overall taste. One of the best strawberry mousse cakes I had tried? Maybe, at least for now.

Most of the cakes are almost entirely made up of mousse, saved for the thin layer of sponge cake at the bottom. Definitely a draw for mousse cakes lovers. While the sponge cake when eaten by itself is pretty dry, it goes perfectly with the mousse, giving dimension to the texture so that one will not be overwhelmed by that amount of light cream.

Loved these two cakes so much that I ended up getting more for takeaway! By the way, the price of the cakes is pretty steep, so be prepared to spend.

My Thoughts: Sweet Bliss!
