Kind Kones - Guilt-Free Creamy Indulgence

A friend led me to this quaint awesome dessert when she posted an inspirational post on the decision to buy Pistachio Kunafeh Dream Dome. I had heard about famous Kunafeh Chocolate and it does sound good, so I got tempted when she wrote about how good the one at Kind Kones was. And since I’m ordering the Dream Dome, I might as well get the cakes and ice-cream.

And yes, the vegan desserts here are awesome and oh-so-luscious that it is unbelievable that they contain no milk. This is really guilt-free indulgence.

The first bite of Blueberry Lite invokes that feeling of amazement on how rich the cream is. And packed with the blueberries’ fruity taste, this is one excellent cake, rivaling its counterparts made from milk.

Strawberry Lite is just as creamy and full of the sweet tangy taste of real strawberries.

Pandan Gula Melaka is so smooth and creamy in texture. Of course I love the combination of sweet vegetal aroma of pandan and caramel goodness of Gula Melaka. Another must-try here.

Pistachio Kunafeh Dream Dome totally gets it right for Kunafeh chocolate with the bits of seedless raspberries added into the pistachio ice cream to balance the richness of pistachio and chocolate while introducing specks of excitement. The Kunafeh core is super crispy, juxtaposing so well with the ice cream. It is a dream to savour.

Häagen-Dazs Macaron Ice-creams

In a bid to find citrus based ice-cream, I stumbled upon Häagen-Dazs Yuzu Macaron Ice-cream ala Pierre Herme’s special! I love the smooth texture of the ice-cream, juxtaposeing so well with the chewy, crunchy macaron bits generously added into the ice-cream.

It is so good that I get a second tub plus the Berries version.

Gelatissimo - Nice Variety of Yummy Gelatos

Attracted by the sheer variety of interesting gelatos at Gelatissimo when I happen to pass by one of her stores at Shaw Centre, I decide to queue to try out the cool confectionery here.

I got Strawberry and Very Berry Cheesecake, and both are creamily good. Strawbeery is smooth and full of the tang and aroma of real strawberries. Very Berry Cheesecake's highlight is the laces of savoury nutty flavour of cheese that goes so well with the fruity taste of berry. But texture wise, Strawberry wins for its smoothness.

Thoughts: Great for a nice quick treat!

Cool Haus Ice-cream

Dairy-free ice-cream that gives its dairy counterparts a run for their money! Yes, Cool Haus ice-cream is so good that I keep buying them whenever the current tub is emptied out by my family and me. Who could have guessed that such a gem can be found in a dingy little Giant supermarket near the kampong?

The chewy and starchy black sugar boba is obviously the star here. I love its texture that contrast with the smooth, creamy ice-cream. The rich caramel flavour of black sugar make me swoon in delight.

Taro 'N Boba, which is yam, has this floral earthy taste that goes so well with the black sugar. I'm sold at the first spoonful.

Cheeky Top

I brought Hojicha 'N Boba right after Taro, and I actually prefer this, surprisingly. The floral bitterness of Hojicha actually highlights the caramel sweetness of the boba. Perfect match.

Birds of Paradise - Cool Sweetness

I got to know about Birds of Paradise when I passed by a long queue outside its outlet at Jewel. So when I passed by the outlet at Craig Road–well, this area is like my haunting ground on weekends–I took note to visit it one day. So the chance to do so finally comes.

This ice-cream parlour goes for the cool, minimalist style with white-washed walls, interesting tunnel-like layout and strips of lights at the corners. Most impressive is the dazzling array of ice-creams made from natural botanical ingredients. Some even have spices in them!

By the way, this is place is kind of like a social space, for socialising. So there is only a curvy bench carved out from the white wall that is available for sitting. But there is no worries about not getting a seat here because you can always stand around to chit chat and enjoy the ice-creams. There are quite a number of patrons standing around to have their ice-creams actually. And they look cool doing so. I prioritize comfort so I quickly snag a place at the cosy corner before the crowd comes in lol

Since it's my first outing here, I decide to get the safer choice of Lychee and Raspberry. Very smooth and creamy, full of the sweet floral taste of lychee and the tangy fruity flavour of raspberry. Very Nice!

Update: I grab a quick cone of Pandan ice-cream and enjoy it while doing my catwalk to Outram Park MRT. The pandan ice-cream is interestingly white in colour, which neans no artificial colour, woot! The pandan’s sweet glassy flavour is very pronounced. I like it.

The thyme cone is super crispy 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Go for the cone is you don’t mind holding onto it all the time. Cup does have the advantage of the choice to set it down. But cone is more delicious.

Service is pretty good and efficient. They keep their cool even with the crowd coming in. So yup, this is really a cool place to grab an ice-cream to enjoy and be cool.

Thoughts: Totally cool place to savour good ice-creams

Havla Craig - Delicious Healthy Desserts

So many restaurants and cafes, so little time to visit them all. Out of so many choices, I set my eyes on Havla because it is located at the quaint heritage area, the matcha theme and the novelty of vegan desserts.

The place is minimalistic, classy, modern and has lots of zen influences. There are also lots of spaces between each table. So I feel really calm and refreshed when stepping into this unique space. The desserts are good too, and the tea is refreshing to the palate and the mind. In fact, this is place is heaven sent for lactose intolerant individuals.

Since I'm here for the matcha, of course I will order an item that has matcha. But I also want something different instead of pure matcha or matcha ice-cream only. So I decide on Warabi Mochi with  °2 Matcha Gelato. °2 Matcha Gelato is the more intense version of matcha and I love it. The taste is more intense, yet still smooth and not acidic. Warabi mochi is soft, chewy and refreshing in taste, complementing the creamy ice-cream well. By the way, the ice-cream still tastes very creamy despite being vegan.

Shikuwasa Yuzu Cheesecake is full of lemony goodness and has the light sweetness to balance the flavours. The cheesecake is slightly firmer in texture and pretty creamy, yet refreshing due to the lemon added. Lemon fans will like this.

Kamairicha Hot Brew is so smooth and has the extra roasted flavour with no bitterness.
I love this.

Nice photo, so I take a photo of it lol

The matcha ice-creams are covered to prevent oxidation, thus preserving the potency of the matcha.

The ambience makes this cafe a really great place to relax, hang out with friends or loved ones while enjoying some yummy healthy desserts and good matcha or tea. Since I'm mildly lactose intolerant, this is really an awesome choice for me to enjoy some good creamy desserts.

Thoughts: Nice, Zen, Modern Cafe

Online Shopping for Japanese Food Stuff at Umamill

I was looking for other stuff online when I chanced upon Umamill. And remembering that mothership had recommended this site before, I decided to take a peek around here. So here is my stash after a "peek".

Minona Natsu Hakuto Ice & Outo & White Chocolate (Peach Mochi) is so good that I'm going to buy at 6 pcs next time! Strong sweet aroma of peach in the smooth ice-cream with white chocolate, plus glutinous rice cracker to balance the sweetness and add extra texture to ice-cream, ah, I finish this in two minutes.

Sanrei Kanitsume Claw Fry (Crab Claw Croquette) is super creamy and flavourful. There is a bit of crab claw meat in there. By the way, I put butter on top of these delights and bake them in the oven instead.

Geláre - Nice, small place to chill out

Spotted this place when I was just looking for a comfortable place to pass time before my appointment 2 hours later, and this little stall caught my eye.

I like the presentation of the food here. Lemon tea, which is of the right sweetness, not overly so, is served in jar-like mug. And the ice-cream scoops are moulded into cute half cone shape before being presented on the glass boat. Strawberry ice-cream here is very good: awesomely creamy and full of real strawberries.

It is pretty small space in AMK Hub, but good for chill-out with a good friend or two since the the turquoise sofa chairs are super cozy. And the service staff is very friendly to make one feel at ease.

Thoughts: Great place to chill out with friends when at AMK Hub.

Apiary - The Absolutely Perfect Place for Chilling Out

Good ice-cream, good company and good place, this is what enjoying life is all about. Relish the moment and recall the sweet memories. Apiary is exactly the place to make it happen.

The ice-cream is very creamy, which exactly how I like it. To add it on, there are lots of exciting and unique flavours to choose from: like the classic strawberry (all real strawberries, no artificial stuff) and vanilla, the one of a kind ones like Blue Milk, and the intoxicating ones like Bailey’s. I like them all, especially Blue Milk, which has that tiny hint of saltiness to shake things up.

What I love about this place is that the dining area is on second floor, free from the eyes of the staff (friendly and helpful nonetheless) and the place is bright and goes big on Muji minimalist style. Really set one into the relaxing mood. And what you see here in the picture is only half of the dining space. There is more at the back.

But of course, buy lots of ice-cream if you are intending to lounge there for quite a while. Support the business so that they can stay on to continue to provide this awesome chilling place for us. There are not many places around like this. Treasure it.

Thoughts: Love, love this place. Always come here after I dine at this heritage area.

Appleby Farms Ice-cream

I had actually noticed this brand of ice-cream before when shopping at Cold Storage since it is hard to ignore the cartoonish drawings on the tubs. I was tempted to get a tub but since I am more into exotic flavours, I ended not getting one. Fast forward to now, I eventually still snag a tub of boysenberry variety as it is impossible to resist the temptation anymore and boysenberry flavour is still pretty rare. And at the first spoonful, I know I made the right choice. In fact, I am shocked by how good it is.

It is incredibly smooth and creamy, most probably the smoothest and creamiest ice-cream one can get from supermarkets. Just when I thought no other supermarket-brought ice-creams can be better than my current favourites, Appleby Farms come in to change my mind. Cold Storage sure knows where to get the premium ice-cream lol

Despite refraining from getting those usual flavours of ice-cream, I am making an exception for Appleby Farms to go down to grab a tub of their old-school vanilla ice-cream.

Jude’s Clotted Cream Ice-cream and Salted Caramel Variety

I had once said Waitrose Devonshire Clotted Cream Ice-cream to be the best ice-cream from supermarkets, and this is due to the extra smoothness and light creaminess of the clotted cream that lingers at the back of the mouth. So when I see there is another brand of clotted cream ice-cream, I do not hesitate to get a tub. Introducing Jude’s Clotted Cream Ice-cream!

And this ice-cream does not disappoint. Clotted cream does wonders to ice-cream, period. A spoonful of this is enough to make me feel blissful, but it is hard to stop at one spoonful.

This brand of Salted Caramel ice-cream is divine too. Not too sweet but packs the aromas of caramel and sea salt, it is definitely worth a try.

Kane Mochi - Mochi + Ice-cream = Thumbs-up

Thin glutinous rice dough wrapped around ice-cream really yields a yummy treat. In fact, I feel it is better than those filled with bean paste only. I like the creaminess of ice-cream, paired with the stretchy, chewy dough skin for variation in texture and taste. Another plus point is that there are lots of flavours to choose from! Perfect for giving as gifts due to the variety, catering to different taste buds.

Thai Ice Tea is the must-try of Kane Mochi’s repertoire. For one, it is unique. I mean, where else can one get Thai Ice Tea ice-cream mochi? Thai Ice Tea is liked by many due to the creaminess and aroma of tea. And Thai Ice Tea ice-cream is exactly the same.

Salted Caramel is interesting due to the saltiness plus the richness of caramel. If one likes salted caramel desserts in general, then the Salted Caramel mochi here will not disappoint.

Lychee mochi features the flowery aroma of lychee. But the ice-cream tastes more like sorbet than ice-cream. Somehow, it is just not that creamy as I would like.

My family members have tried strawberry and blueberry, and they say the are good. Well, now I know what to get for them when I am at Jewel.

All in all, I am still looking forward to try the other flavours and buy more for my loved ones to enjoy.

My Thoughts: Nice!

New Zealand Natural

I was actually checking out the ice-cream & cookie co’s selection of ice-cream at NTUC when I noticed New Zealand Natural ice-cream stashed in the neighbouring freezer compartment. Curiosity prompted me to pick up a tub to check the ingredient list, where there is no sight of artificial colouring and flavour, plus the fact that there was 2-for-1 offer, I ended buying three tubs home. Guess what, this brand of ice-cream is fast becoming one of my favourites.

Forestberry yoghurt is very creamy, so thumbs up to this one. The same goes for vanilla ice-cream. The big surprise comes in the form of Lychee & Passionfruit ice-cream. This is the must-try of New Zealand Natural’s lineup. The sweet floral taste of lychee will please any palates while the swirls of passionfruit jam adds mild citrus tangy flavour to perk up the taste. The result is creamy yet refreshing treat.

I also highly recommend Buttermilk and Raspberry. The nutty flavour with a bit of tang from the buttermilk makes for a interesting yet delicious treat.

Yeo Ice-cream

This British ice-cream is like frozen cloud. The texture is ethereal, being light and airy. The taste is decadently sweet, and the salted caramel adds the nutty flavour and punch. Best of all, it is made with organic ingredients.

the ice-cream & cookie co. Chendol Ice-cream

Chendol ice-cream!!! At last!!! It is a wonder why no one comes up with this awesome creation sooner. Chendol is a beloved dessert that hits all the right notes with the creaminess and nutty flavour of coconut, the toasty flavour of caramel in the sweet gula melaka and smooth, gelatinous texture of the refreshing pandan jelly. And the creaminess is doubled in the ice-cream version. In fact, this dairy-free cold dessert is on par with its dairy counterparts when it comes to creaminess.

I absolutely love it. Now I can enjoy chendol anytime of the day without going out. Woot! Just found out that there is a new flavour, Odeh Odeh, I cannot wait to try it.

Update: I have finally tried Odeh Odeh and it is officially my favourite non-dairy ice-cream. Smooth, fragrant pandan ice cream paired with swirls of intensely flavoured gula melaka syrup and chewy coconut mochi, it is a winner in both taste and texture.

And I had tried their sandwiches. They are good! The toasty aroma of cookies works so well with the smooth creaminess of ice cream.

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory - Langue de Chat Cookies for Cheese Lovers and Awesome Sundae!

A strong contender to Shiro Koibito as king of Langue de Chat cookie has emerged in form of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory!

Made with Hokkaido Jersey milk and French Guérande salt, Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory products feature rich buttery, crumbly cookies sandwiching thick slabs of smooth white chocolate cheese filling. A light bite on the langue de chat and the cookie quickly breaks off to melt into buttery goodness in the mouth. The nutty flavours of the exotic cheeses in the filling add the extra kick to the taste. A must-try for cheese lovers.

Porcini & Gouda is my personal favourite out of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory’s offerings. The highly sought-after earthy aroma of the rare porcini mushroom makes this cookie taste like an exquisite French/Italian course condensed into a dainty petit fours. Paired with gouda cheese, this is a decadent treat.

The taste of camembert cheese is very pronounced in Salt & Camembert langue de chat, this may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Cheese lovers will appreciate this though.

Honey & Gorgonzola’s taste is more nuanced due to the sweet honey harmonizing the strong cheesy flavour of blue-veined gorgonzola cheese. Can be a crowd pleaser.

Update: The packaging had changed. Now they have new flavours such as Truffle and Cheddar, Salted Caramel and Mascarpone.

Truffle and Cheddar is umami dream comes true in the form of cookie. The intense aroma of truffle is perfect match with the saltiness of the cheese. The mild sweetness of the crispy cookie perks things up.

Salted Caramel and Mascarpone is for caramel lovers. The taste of caramel is strong, to the point that the subtle flavour of mascarpone is eclipsed. I can taste the creaminess of mascarpone though.

Thanks to my friends, I also get to try Lemon and Cheesecake cookies and Strawberry and Milk Tea cookies brought from Japan. Lemon and Cheesecake, with the punch of lemon and smoothness of cream cheese, will definitely convert anyone into a fan of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory cookies. Strawberry and Milk Tea is a very safe option for trying this brand of cookies, even for those who are not into cheese. The pleasant, harmonious combination of strawberry and milk can hardly go wrong. Keep eyes peeled for seasonal availability of these cookies at our local counters.

For something different to indulge in or to impress cheese lovers, this brand of cookies makes for great choice.

Update: Got to try the Double Fromage Cheesecake from here, it is so blissfully yummy! Light but distinctive taste of cheese, fluffy creaminess and the slight variation in texture and taste between baked cheesecake (an iota of saltiness plus nutty flavour) and no bake part (smooth and creamy), this combination makes for the perfect cheesecake.

Strawberry Swiss Roll defines the golden standard for cake to cream ratio. Just a ring of cake wrapping around a huge dollop of cream with a thin layer of strawberry jam spread on its inter surface, this is the recipe for best swiss roll. And the super tiny strawberry bits added to the pink strawberry cream makes this a blissful treat. I always prefer real strawberries used in strawberry baked goods, so this cake wins over my heart.

Cow Cow Twist is a must-order because it is the best sundae. I love the exotic nutty flavour of cheese in the ice-cold cloud of cream.

Cow Cow Milk Pie is also worth a try due to the creamy, fragrant cream filling and the novelty of the flaky puff pastry encapsulating it.

Thoughts: Must-try for cheese lovers.
