Antoinette - Treats of Opulence

Closed

It is just another day hanging out at the second floor of my regular haunt, Millenia Walk, when I notice a new cafe on the ground floor. It is impossible to miss it due to the display of beautiful, tantalizing-looking cakes, flushes of gold on the decor and the posh interior of black walls with a chandelier and yellow spotlights. So naturally, we decide to check it out after our lunch.

As a huge fan of all things coconut and gula melaka, I want so much to try the odeh odeh Japanese soufflé pancakes when I see it in the menu. But I am too full after lunch at Tomi, so I go for the cakes instead.

Superlova is as pretty as the roses it was created from. And in the taste department, it is sweet bliss due to the sweet aroma of rose that is further enhanced by the lychee fruit hidden within the smooth rose mousse. The thin cake sponge encased within adds a nice dimension to the texture. I also love the rose meringue sticks decked on top of the cake. They are sinful melt-in-your-mouth sugary treats. The rose macaron is oh-so-good, featuring the nutty aroma of almond and the chewy texture with no caves in the shells that define a macaron well-made. The raspberry jam introduces shots of excitement with its tangy taste to balance the sweetness of the rose mousse. As a fan of rose-based confectionery, I definitely like this creation a lot and the variation in taste and texture makes it interesting.

Antoinette is like the bestseller of Antoinette’s repertoire of offerings, so I order it without hesitation. The flavour of earl grey is very pronounced in this cake, which can be a boon or bane, depending on personal preference. It adds something different to the chocolatey mousse, which can be exciting. On the other hand, if one is expecting a rich chocolate cake wholly devoted to showcasing pure decadent tastes of chocolate, the strong taste of earl grey maybe distracting instead. I like the raspberry coulis as the acidity of this fruit actually highlights the velvety, rich taste of chocolate.

One of the best reasons to come here to enjoy some exquisite desserts is of course the ambience. Bathed in soft yellow light, the place looks so chic. It is like the cool, sophisticated place to hang out at to be cool. The great, enthusiastic and friendly service crew all the more makes lounging here a pleasure.

And yes, I am still waiting for the chance to come here again to try other cakes and that odeh odeh pancake.

My Thoughts: Very Nice!

This cafe is no longer in operation.
