Leckerbaer - Lovely Tarts and Puffs

Frankly speaking, Leackbaer's display counter looks very attractive and will make many stop in their tracks to take a second look for the dainty, colourful tarts. Even the cream puffs also look so good.

So since I'm just hanging around Isetan Shaw House, I take the opportunity grab a lovely-looking puff here and then find a nice seat to rest, relax and watch people passing by.

Raspberry Skåkager is of nice tangy sweetness. The tart base is pretty hard to break with utensils, but it is surprisingly crumbly when biting on it.

Passion and Verbena Tart is very refreshing in taste, being full of zest due to the passionfruit jam at the bottom. The cream added on top cut down the tangy taste nicely for a more well-rounded taste.

Spicy Mango puff is interesting. There is a hint of spice in the taste. It's an acquired taste, I feel.

Strawberry and Cream Puff has a nice, slightly crispy, biscuit-like crust over the top of the puff pastry. And within the pastry is creamy goodness packed with tangy real flavour of strawberries. This is my favourite puff of the two.

The assortment of tarts and cakes makes for very pretty and impressive gift to loved ones. Crowd favourite is Matcha and those with cake base. Yes, I love the ones with cake base! They are delicious.

Thoughts: Cool and pretty place to chill

Beard Papa's - Super Crispy Creamy Puffs

This puff surprises me on how crispy it is! And I love it. The crispiness contrasts so well with the smooth creamy custard to add variation to the texture of the overall puff. The cream cheese tart is also good.

Melon Pan is the best! Crispy sugar biscuit top goes perfectly with the custard.

The flavour of the month concept is very interesting and refreshing. There is always something to look forward to each month 😉

January has Singaporean’s favourite: Durian! Specially for durian fans.

February's Strawberry Puff is not only of a lovely shade of pink, it tastes lovely too with the sweet and tart taste of strawberry plus the sweet aroma of strawberries. The Cheesecake version is even better. Definitely one of my favourite flavours.

2025 February special is 4 Cheeses and this is my absolute favourite. The savoury nutty flavour makes for complex taste that I love. And this adds a layer of luxury to this dessert snack.

March’s Melon custard is full of sweet floral aroma of melon. I love it!

April’s flavour is Sakura, which is milder and more earthy in taste. The box is super pretty.

May features a very unique flavour of Organic Acai Berry. The slightly tart berry taste of Acai makes the puff a real surprising delight to enjoy.

June is full of summer zest with Peach Melba flavour. The delicate sweetness of peach with a light flora aroma is highlighted by the tang of raspberry. A delightful treat.

July is the month to say Sawasdee ka to Thai Tea puff … in 2022 only. 2023 July has Kit Kat flavour instead, which I have no interest in trying. So no comment on its taste. I never like anything with oreo, kit kat, etc, basically super commercial snacks added in.

August have White Peach flavour. I love it the sweet aroma of Peach!

September’s Autumn special of Chestnut is full of toasted earthy aroma due to the use of Japanese chestnuts. Also highly recommend! This is for 2022.

October’s Halloween special of Kyoho grape puff is so good … and they even have bits of grape flesh added in 😋

November has Salted Caramel. It is sweeter, but the salt balances the taste nicely.

December welcomes the festive mood with Pistachio flavour. I love the vegetal nutty flavour of Pistachio here.

Taro is another awesome flavour, full of creamy earthy goodness.

Stay tuned for updates on flavours of the months.

The Rusk here may look unassuming, but it is actually buttery and super crispy and flaky. Worth a try!

Thoughts: Awesome quick dessert to get to satisfy sugar cravings

Hirota Ice Cream Puffs

Every now and then, I can spot some gems in NTUC, not as often as in the case of Cold Storage though. Hirota ice cream puffs are one of them.

Generous big dollop of creamy flavourful ice cream wrapped in a thin puff pastry puff, it trumps over those generic custard cream puffs whose filling is made from custard mix instead of egg and milk. The matcha one is saturated with the aroma and slight bitter taste of matcha. In fact, the matcha ice cream puff is probably one of the few supermarket matcha products that really has the strong taste of matcha. Other matcha desserts and snacks mostly bear resemblance to matcha in colour only. So not surprisingly, the boxes of matcha puffs are snapped up pretty fast when stocked up at the ice cream section of NTUC Xtra. Strawberry and vanilla ones are good also.

Since I had seen this product and brought two boxes, I had went on to buy twenty boxes to treat others. Everyone in the family loves these puffs.
