Baristart Coffee - For both Coffee Lovers and Non-Coffee Lovers

At last! I get to dine at Baristart Coffee after weeks of trying to no avail. Big reason for this is because this quaint cafe always had a queue already when I went there at around 1pm. I beat the crowd this time by going at 10:30am instead and I got a seat without queuing, but much to my surprise, there are other patrons in there already. So yup, this place is that popular. After trying the food here, I can see why this cafe is so popular.

Since I don't drink coffee, I will talk about another specialty of this cafe instead: Hokkaido BLEI Jersey Milk. And custard of Strawberry Sweet Jar is made exactly from Hokkaido Milk. The custard is silky and very rich in flavour. Full of milky goodness and not heavy at the same time. The cookie crumbles add a nice variation in texture to accentuate the silkiness of the custard. I also like to eat the custard together with the aroma of baked cookie at every bite. A very nice dessert to enjoy.

I love it that this cafe offers something special that other cafes seldom do, which is yoghurt related drink. Since I'm slightly lactose-intolerant, this Blueberry Yoghurt Smoothie is my saviour, especially in the morning when I haven't eaten much yet. After enjoying does of this refreshing, super yummy, super healthy, slightly zesty and creamy smoothie, my tummy is feeling great all day long.

Obihiro Butadon is such an awesome dish, which surprises me since I do not expect a cafe to serve up something savoury that is so good. The pork is very thinly sliced to throughly soak up the essence of the sweet, aromatic homemade teriyaki sauce and for easy bite. Mizuna, a type of veggie which adds the refreshing element to the dish together with the onion, is easy to bite too. The fat of the pork is full of nutty aroma that makes it even better. Pearl-like Nanatsuboshi rice is starchy and has an iota of chewiness, I can actually eat this rice on its own. In fact, I have eaten it on its own as they are very generous with the amount of rice added to the don, so when I finish the pork slices, there is still some rice left ...

The place is of chic cafe style and features very flattering lightning where almost everyone there looks good. So when there, just snap lots of pictures of the instagram worthy food, yourself, your partner/s, friends or family. The service is good and efficient. This is definitely one of my favourite cafes due to the good food and the yoghurt smoothie–this is my personal must order when at Baristart Coffee.

Thoughts: Awesome Cafe!

Beard Papa's - Super Crispy Creamy Puffs

This puff surprises me on how crispy it is! And I love it. The crispiness contrasts so well with the smooth creamy custard to add variation to the texture of the overall puff. The cream cheese tart is also good.

Melon Pan is the best! Crispy sugar biscuit top goes perfectly with the custard.

The flavour of the month concept is very interesting and refreshing. There is always something to look forward to each month 😉

January has Singaporean’s favourite: Durian! Specially for durian fans.

February's Strawberry Puff is not only of a lovely shade of pink, it tastes lovely too with the sweet and tart taste of strawberry plus the sweet aroma of strawberries. The Cheesecake version is even better. Definitely one of my favourite flavours.

2025 February special is 4 Cheeses and this is my absolute favourite. The savoury nutty flavour makes for complex taste that I love. And this adds a layer of luxury to this dessert snack.

March’s Melon custard is full of sweet floral aroma of melon. I love it!

April’s flavour is Sakura, which is milder and more earthy in taste. The box is super pretty.

May features a very unique flavour of Organic Acai Berry. The slightly tart berry taste of Acai makes the puff a real surprising delight to enjoy.

June is full of summer zest with Peach Melba flavour. The delicate sweetness of peach with a light flora aroma is highlighted by the tang of raspberry. A delightful treat.

July is the month to say Sawasdee ka to Thai Tea puff … in 2022 only. 2023 July has Kit Kat flavour instead, which I have no interest in trying. So no comment on its taste. I never like anything with oreo, kit kat, etc, basically super commercial snacks added in.

August have White Peach flavour. I love it the sweet aroma of Peach!

September’s Autumn special of Chestnut is full of toasted earthy aroma due to the use of Japanese chestnuts. Also highly recommend! This is for 2022.

October’s Halloween special of Kyoho grape puff is so good … and they even have bits of grape flesh added in 😋

November has Salted Caramel. It is sweeter, but the salt balances the taste nicely.

December welcomes the festive mood with Pistachio flavour. I love the vegetal nutty flavour of Pistachio here.

Taro is another awesome flavour, full of creamy earthy goodness.

Stay tuned for updates on flavours of the months.

The Rusk here may look unassuming, but it is actually buttery and super crispy and flaky. Worth a try!

Thoughts: Awesome quick dessert to get to satisfy sugar cravings

NewYork Perfect Cheese

The ultimate decadent Japanese Sweets: the combination of melt-in-your-mouth cookie biscuit, silky cream and slightly salty Gouda cheese with nutty goodness. It will impress on first bite. But it is very delicate, so handle with care and store in the fridge upon receipt. Let it warm up to room temperature to unlock the flavours before savouring.

Rodda's Clotted Cream

Extremely beautiful in taste; saturated with the lovely taste of pure cream, and luxurious and smooth in texture, without feeling oily at all. Pair this with quality strawberry jam on scones, you can get one of those pure pleasures in life, enjoying English Tea right in the comforts of your home. Highly recommended. As to whether to follow the Devonshire's way to put jam on top of clotted cream or Cornwell's way to put cream on top of jam, that depends on personal's preference, as long as there is clotted cream to go with the scones.

Happy Crepe

Happy Crepe, morsels of délice from Japan! I happened to stumble upon the Kyuushu fair at Isetan, after a satisfying lunch at Les Amis, and there were so many delicious looking Japanese specialty food on sale in that fair. Finally, made up my mind to buy the Happy Crepe お菓子 due to pretty looking displays and a number of flavuors available. Matcha, Strawberry Cheesecake, Chestnut, Chocolate and more. I'm regretted about it afterwards because......

I had not brought enough! I realized after trying the crepe, that buying six only is so insufficient for my cravings of this dainty looking, delicious dessert. Not cloyingly sweet at all, with a thin crepe wrapped around a centre of smooth yummy cream, peppered with custard of different flavours. Chestnut is the best of all in my opinion. Definitely makes one happy as the namesake of this snack.

Looking forward to the next fair to get my hands on lots of these.
