L’Angélus - French Old World Charm

Delicious Saffron Rice with Toasty Octopus. More on this later.

Time for some French food again after Scandinavian, Thailand, Swiss, Indian food adventures! So I set my sight on L'angélus because the motif really looks interesting. Just a question, what do you see in the motif of L'angélus?

Is it a bell? Actually, I only realise that it's a bell when dining at here. Prior to this, I always thought it is wizard wearing a huge wizard hat plus a cloak and holding magical staff!

Anyway, this place exudes a French Old World charm while being cosy and somewhat idyllic. I enjoy immersing in such ambience while enjoying very good, well-prepared food. Of course, the great service here helps to seal the deal.

Cute pillow-like bread served slightly warm has fluffy and dense interior, thus packing lots of the roasted cracker aroma. Good eaten on it own or with butter.

The moment Carpaccio de Saint Jacques is set on my table, I immediately catch the whiffs of the lovely, earthy aroma of the black truffle vinaigrette splashed over the thinly sliced fresh Hokkaido Scallop. This dish is a real delight when savoured with pickled radish and topinambour purée since there are so many flavours at work here.

I absolutely love Risotto De Pouple. The Marinated Spanish Cantabria Octopus Leg has this smoke aroma and crispiness on the surface. Biting into it reveals the tender, briny sweet flesh within. Iberico Chorizo Bellota features nuanced flavours that I like. And the Saffron Risotto is oh-so-good. By the way, the tomatoes are super sweet!

Clafoutis, which is Brandy Cherry Warm Flan with Vanilla Ice Cream, tastes delicious when eaten hot since the custard is still in lava state at this point. The cherries are, wow, saturated with brandy to add lots of kick to the taste. The cold, creamy ice-cream gives a nice contrast to the temperature and texture.

French posters, floral fabric lamps, French crockery, white table linen laid over red table cloth, wooden furnishings that look like labelled crate surfaces being pieced together, vines, bougainvilleas and vases of flowers, all these lovely little things create that old world French casual ambience. It is quite an experience to dine here. The service is very good, being friendly and helpful. And they really let patrons take our time to flip through the menu to decide what we want. So I really feel very relaxed here lol

When I want to enjoy some good French food without hurting my wallet too much, this is one of my choices.

Thoughts: C'est bon!
