I had heard about Alkaff Mansion for quite a while and since I’m having a craving for Español cuisine again, I set my sights on Una, one of the restaurants housed within Alkaff Mansion.
Travelling through the quiet road flanked by thick topical jungle to arrive here and then taking my first at the mansion, I can see what is the hype here. The mansion looks so grand and impressive, with blooms and fairy lights decorating the entrances. The interior speaks of European grandeur with bronze framed mirrors, hanging lamps, full length dark wooden French Door windows peeking out to the lush foliage outside, thick velvet curtains, tables covered with white linen, vibrant Español music and fresh blooms on each table. This place is worth a visit simply for the ambience only.
The food is of authentic Español style, is hearty and bursting with vibrant flavours. The menu is varied, featuring a good variety of proteins, which is how I like it. I totally enjoy all the dishes here.
The service is very friendly and prompt to respond to requests, making this place an awesome choice for romantic dates and exciting gatherings.
The complimentary Crystal Bread is so unique in that the exterior thin, crystal-like, flaky layer is so crispy, which envelops the fluffy thin bread core with a slightly chewy texture. It is a very delightful bite.
Croquetas de Jamón features Jamon Ibérico Fritters Béchamel, Garlic Aioli, Spicy Bravas sauce is creamy, full of umami, with a hint of unique bouncy texture. The meaty savoury taste of iberco adds a layer of complexity to the taste, elevating it. I totally love this.
Gambas al Ajillo showcases Sea Prawns sautéed in Olive Oil. The mild briny sweetness of prawns is made exciting by the pungency of garlic and mild spiciness of Bird Eye’s Chilli. Yes, it is a must to top each prawn with a slice of chilli to maximise the enjoyment of this dish. The crunchy garlic slices soaked in sauce of White Wine and Flat-leaf Parsley are so good that I wipe them out.
Pluma Ibérica is medium rare Grilled Pluma Ibérico Pork that is meaty, sweet, tender with a good bite and meaty juiciness. The lovely crust of char rendered the taste of the pork even sweeter. The refreshing vegetal bitterness of grilled Padrón Peppers cut through the meatiness to balance the flavours.
Turrón de Almendras is definitely worth the wait. Almond Nougat Coulant is Spanish Lava Cake made special with the incorporation of white chocolate and almond nougat instead of dark chocolate. I love it for its richness, aroma of nuts and uniqueness. The super moist cake tastes perfect with the sharp zest of Raspberry Sorbet. Hazelnut Streusel adds a nice crunchy texture to the dessert.
Refreshing tangy Red Sangria
