Chunagon 中纳言 活伊勢海老料理 - Lobster Feast

Ise Ebi feast at Chunagon? I’m all up for it!

Actually Ise Ebi is a kind of spiny lobster caught off Ise Bay of Japan. And featuring sweet, soft meat, it is many times better than the famous Boston lobster. I’m saying this based on my personal experience. Ise Ebi is quite a rarity in Singapore’s restaurant, so I’m definitely very excited about trying an eleven course Ise Ebi meal at Chunagon, where Ise Ebi is prepared in various ways.

And yes, all the dishes of Chitose menu are so delicious. The service is awesome and the place has this upmarket, calm, soothing ambience.

Live Ise Lobster sashimi is so fresh and has this clear, mellow briny sweetness. Its meat is tender and crunchy.

First up is the complimentary drink and I opt for umeshu, which goes so well with the dishes that I order a full glass afterwards.

The first of the two dashi, aka appetisers, is one with tuna, mayonnaise and chopped octopus. It is so creamy and tasty. This is a very good start.

The other one is deep fried fish with pickles. The fish, served cold,  is better than what I expected and it goes so well with the cold pickles to yield a refreshing taste.

Tasty, tangy, crunchy salad

Left: Deep Fried Scallop, Right: Cream Lobster Croquette

Deep fried Scallop is so plump, soft and juicy. Goes perfectly with the special tartar that is so well-balanced between tanginess, creaminess and savoury flavours.

Cream Lobster Croquette is so flavourful, creamy, full of umami, crispy on the outside, molten for the interior, but taste of lobster not obvious.

Miso soup is very briny sweet with bits of lobster meat soaked within. Most luxurious miso I ever have.

Refreshing, light sorbet as palate cleanser that is well-balanced between tanginess and sweetness

Grilled Lobster is the main star of the dinner. The meat has mild milky sweetness, firm yet tender texture, and full of umami when soaked in savoury creamy sauce and molten cheese. The char accentuates the sweetness of the meat and adds complexity to the taste.

Ochazuke is rice and bits of lobster served in a light, clear flavourful broth. So tasty and refreshing after a sumptuous meal.

The cheesecake is light and carries an unique element that makes it smoother and more floral. One of the best cheesecakes I ever have.

Thoughts: A must-visit for seafood lovers
