Profit Margins or Quality?

This topic had been bugging me for quite a while already, so I need to get it off and rant about it here (despite this being mainly a blog for my notes on restaurants). Sometimes, I simply cannot understand why some food manufacturers are willing to potentially compromise the health and safety of the customers by adding numerous chemicals into their products, or to have the products made in countries infamous for corner cutting and outright addition of poisonous substances into their food.

Just take a well known food product and take a look at the ingredients list, and one may see numerous E*** in that list. Those are chemicals; be it food colourings, preservative or additives for other purposes. I had seen at least six of them in a product whose consumers are mainly children! Worse off, it is made in that infamous place; I tried to finish them when given to me as a gift, but the taste is so awful that I uncontrollably puked out the first mouthful immediately. There is an undeniably weird taste in that food that tastes so disgusting on the palate. I boycott that product afterwards and told everyone I know about the terrible taste.

While I can understand that food manufactors need to make profit, it is still unacceptable to take the cheapest, potentially dangerous route to produce their food. The customers are the ones helping them to make money, shouldn't the companies show the basic concern for the safety of customers' health?

This is part of the reason why I want to highlight some quality food products on my blog since they deserve a mention for the usage of wholesome real ingredients (maybe few use preservative, but there is just one such ingredient on the list).

Lastly, I want to say that it helps to take a look at the ingredients list and country of manufacture to know if the consumers' money is paid for the food or for the ever increasing profits for the companies.
